Behind TFT: A Quick Life Update

Behind TFT: A Quick Life Update

There’s been a lot going on, my friends. You may have seen that there’s been a couple Friday’s when I haven’t posted, or that I haven’t been too active on Instagram lately. Well, here’s approximately eight reasons:

  • Physical Therapy 2x a week
  • Planning my 30th birthday
  • A breakup
  • Pain meds, bad reactions and very little sleep
  • Starting the TFT redesign
  • Working full time
  • Basketball Season
  • Hanging out with my friends/family

Just a few things, right? That’s just the tip of the iceberg, really.

I’m in no way complaining, well, not about everything, but there’s been a LOT going on and sometimes, I had to put some things on the shelf and take time for myself in order to stay sane. My friend Caitlin made a point to talk about self-care in a recent newsletter and she couldn’t have been more right. I didn’t post for a couple Friday’s because I needed to take a few days to catch my breath. I could not have made a better decision.

The last week or so has been so crazy in all the best ways. There’s been a lot of big decisions made, and I can’t wait til they start happening! Here’s what’s going on:

The Full Tummy is almost a year old!

It’s true! In a couple weeks, this little baby blog turns one and I’m really excited and proud of the work that’s been put into it so far. I’ve learned a lot (more on that in a couple weeks) and I can’t wait to see what else I learn as this blog of mine grows. There might be few good reasons to keep an eye on the site in the next couple weeks, but for now, I’m keeping it under wraps because I want you all to be surprised! Who knows, maybe you’ll win something, too!

I’m turning 30!

Three whole decades! My mom and my family are probably freaking out a bit, since it just means that they’re getting older not aging at all, and I’m one of the youngest in my generation. I’m really excited for this birthday. 29 has been very good to me, even with it’s ups and down, it’s been so, so good. I mean, starting your birthday off in the sky and sightseeing in Boston with two of your best friends for almost a week is one hell of a way to celebrate! I’m kicking off my 30th year in San Diego at a super awesome hotel and I. Cannot. Wait. I know I’m going to have fun because of the people who will be there and there’s a lot of crazy things to look forward to this year.

It’ll probably be a million degrees wherever I go because of this Endless Summer nonsense, but I am SO excited for summer time. After my birthday, I’m heading to Ohio for Camp Throwback with two of my best friends and a bunch of strangers for an adult summer camp. RIGHT?! How awesome is that?! Then, in July, I’m heading up to my state capitol, Sacramento for this year’s International Food Blogging Conference! Last year’s event was in Seattle, and I’m kinda happy they moved it a bit closer to me! I can’t wait to share a room with my friend Anna and get into so many shenanigans while learning more about the beautiful Farm-To-Table movement that Sacramento has cultivated.

Remember how I injured my ankle?

Yeah, so do I. I mentioned earlier that I’d been in physical therapy and dealing with different anti-inflammatories to help manage my pain level. Well, here’s why. I’m having ankle surgery. In a nutshell, it’s basically reconstructive surgery because I’ve injured it so many times the connective tissue and cartilage is pretty much nonexistent. Fun, huh? There’s more, but I’m sure you don’t want to know the details. I’ve been in physical therapy since December and the goal is to get my ankle muscles strong so that I can heal better after surgery. This leads me to my next big thing..

I’m going back to school!! (And not for what you might think!)

When I first started college, even before then, actually, I intended to be a physical therapist. I’d been in and out of physical therapy throughout high school (thanks to my fantastic ankle) and fell in love with the science behind it. When I transferred to CSULB after being recruited for track & field out of my community college, I had every intention of continuing that… Until the NCAA credit ration came into play and I decided to change my major but continue with the Physical Therapy prerequisites. Well, you guessed it. I didn’t continue with those classes. Being back in a clinic and back in a familiar mindset, I realized that this is something I still want to do wholeheartedly. So, this fall, I’m starting the prereqs for a Physical Therapy Assistant program that will allow me to change careers (eeeep!) a bit sooner and allow me to get eventually my master’s degree in Physical Therapy. Insane, right?

Don’t worry. The Full Tummy isn’t going anywhere, even with all of these crazy, fun things. I love this blog, cooking and writing about food too much to stop doing this. I can’t wait for you to see what I have up my sleeve, especially in the next few months. I think you’re all going to love it. Starting on May 1, 2015, my 29th birthday, I decided to start living for the story and doing things that would lead me on adventures. I don’t think I’m going to stop doing that anytime soon because I reeeeeeally enjoy how this crazy life is shaping up.

Let me know how you’re doing and what you’re excited for, I know there’s something!
